Unlike any other national park in Tanzania, Saadani allows you to enjoy your time with us doing safari and beach. Geographically it is the closest wildlife destination to Dar es Salaam (130km) and Zanzibar and a great choice if you want to enjoy both the beach and wildlife viewing. Moreover, Zanzibar’s Stone Town is just 27 km away from Saadani and flights. Easily accessible from Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam, and Zanzibar.
The vegetation of the park includes mangrove forests around the gorgeous winding Wami River and the ocean, clumps of palm trees, coral reefs in the Indian Ocean, short and tall-grass savannah as well as harsh black cotton plains. For wildlife, In Saadani, you can expect to see waterbucks, wildebeests, hartebeests, reedbucks, buffaloes and giraffes, warthogs, baboons, and colobus monkeys. Sometimes elephants, lions, and leopards are spotted.
A boat safari on the Wami River is a relaxing adventure. It will let you see pods of hippos and big crocodiles, malachite, pied, and giant kingfishers. Common birds include the woolly necked stork, common sandpipers, lilac-breasted rollers, palm nut vultures, fish eagles, and ground hornbills.
In addition to game drives, boat safaris, and walking safaris because Saadani is surrounded by ethnic groups (Waswahili, Wazigua, and Wadoe) and visits to historical sites.
Saadani National Park is accessible by road, air, and water: 4.5 hours drive from Dar es Salaam, 6 hours drive from Arusha, 1-hour drive from Pangani, and 20 minutes from Zanzibar by air and 30 minutes from Dar es Salaam. To have a fantastic experience we recommend you visit between January and February and between June and August.
