Lushoto, with a cooler climate, high in the Usambara Mountains, is where our adventure starts. You will have time to explore the colorful markets or perhaps have a game of football with the locals who you will find so friendly. Since Usambara Destination promotes sustainable, environmental, and beneficial tourism in Lushoto and the Usambara Mountains, this will be an opportunity to meet those we impact and learn the culture.
Our trek begins as we climb up through the protected, lush rainforest to Rangwi.
From Rangwi, we will start our walk through traditional villages and farming areas. We will Interact with locals; the hike is followed by stopping at a women-run pottery group in the village of Sunga. At the pottery, you will learn how the skills for making pots are passed down from one generation to another. We end our trek at Mtae village, located on a ridge giving you stunning views of the Tanzanian and Kenyan plains.
After breakfast, from Mtae, we will visit the Mtae primary school, where we will meet teachers and students, tour the classrooms and learn about the school system. We will be entertained by songs from the students as well as interact with them. Afterward, we will descend to Irente viewpoint and have lunch at a local farm. On our way back to Lushoto, we will visit the local blind school and Irente Children’s home, an orphanage where our director started his life as a young boy. You can voluntarily donate to the institutions if you can and are willing to do so during the visits.
We will travel to the seaside town of Pangani, relax on the white sand and enjoy the beach. The next day we will embark on a unique voyage to Zanzibar by sailing to spice island. Get to a hotel and prepare for the next day’s adventure.
In the morning, We leave for Stone Town. After checking in the hotel will do a local tour in the city and visit the local food market where fresh seafood is sold alongside exotic spices and fruits.
Leave for a spice tour in the morning after breakfast. We will learn about all the different spices and fruit grown in Zanzibar from a local guide. Also, We will have lunch at a local house made from many of the spices that we saw and learned about on our tour. Use the rest of the time to relax on the white sand beaches and swim in the crystal clear waters.
After breakfast, our journey comes to an end. We will arrange any transfers for you to the airport or port to take a flight or ferry back to the mainland and catch your flight back home.
